Eight ways the lion arrives.

Openings, new years, weddings, stages, dragons, drums, temples and the competition floor — each one cued to your day, not to a template.

Grand Openings by NamYang
01

Grand Openings

开幕大吉

The lion clears the way for a new shop, office or restaurant — 采青 at the door, firecrackers, and a blessing your guests will film.

02

Chinese New Year

农历新年

Our busiest fifteen days of the year. Unit to unit and shop to shop — drums in the corridor, 红包 in the lion's mouth, oranges for the family.

Weddings

婚礼迎亲

The gate-crash, the tea ceremony, the banquet entrance — with the couplets, and a lion in a colour that matches your day.

04

Gender Reveals

性别揭晓

One blue lion, one pink lion, and nobody in the room knowing which one opens. We built this for Singapore families and it is now one of our most-requested sets.

05

Dragon Dance

舞龙

A dragon on poles, driven by a team that has to move as one body. For scale — openings, festivals, parades and stages a single lion cannot fill.

06

Drums & Percussion

鼓乐表演

Drum, cymbal and gong alone. Our drum set is the single most-watched thing we have ever put online, and it works without a lion in front of it.

07

Temple Ceremonies

庙会酬神

Temple festivals and 酬神 ceremonies, performed the way the temple expects them — the work that keeps a troupe rooted where it came from.

Corporate & Community

企业社区

Dinner and dance, product launches, ground-breakings, CC and grassroots events — cued to your run sheet and finished before the speeches.

采青 · Plucking the greens

Anyone can rent a lion. The pluck is the craft.

The approach
The approachThe lion comes to your door, bows three times, and studies the greens hung above it.
The snatch
The snatchIt rears, hesitates, and takes the bundle down. This is the part every troupe is judged on.
The blessing, thrown back
The blessing, thrown backIt chews and scatters the leaves over your doorway and your guests. The fortune goes to you.

The greens hide a red packet. The lion takes it down, chews, and spits the lettuce back over your shop and your guests — the fortune is not kept, it is thrown to you. That thirty seconds is what people remember, and it is the part a troupe either does properly or does not.

Before you ask

Questions we get every January.

What does a performance cost?
It depends on the troupe size, the length of the set, the venue and the date — a single lion at a shop opening and a four-lion Chinese New Year round are not the same job. Tell us the occasion, the place and the date and we will come back with a straight number, not a package you have to decode.
How far in advance should we book?
Chinese New Year dates go three to four months ahead and the first few days sell out first — enquire early, even if the details are not settled. For grand openings and weddings, two to four weeks is usually comfortable. Short notice is always worth asking about; we will tell you honestly if we can cover it.
How much space do you need? Can you perform indoors?
Most of our work is indoors — mall atriums, shop units, void decks, corridors and ballrooms. A single lion needs roughly a three-by-three metre clearing plus room for the drum, cymbals and gong. Dragon dance is the exception: a dragon needs a long clear run rather than a square, so tell us the shape of the space early.
What is included?
The lion or lions, the full percussion section, the 采青 greens and the ritual itself, and the coordination with your run sheet or your auspicious timing. Tell us if you want 点睛 — the eye-dotting — so we can brief whoever is doing it.
Do you help choose an auspicious date and time?
Many clients already have a time from their own geomancer or temple, and we work to it. If you do not have one, tell us the occasion and we will work around the timings traditionally used for it.
Can we learn lion dance with you?
Yes. The academy takes complete beginners from primary-school age through adults, and no experience is needed. Students start on drum and footwork long before they pick up a head.

Which one is yours?

Send us the occasion, the venue and the time. We'll tell you what the routine should be and what it costs — no packages you have to decode.
